About Arabian Nights

One Thousand and one Nights is a compilation of South and West Asian stories and folk tales. They were collected during the Islamic Golden Age in the Arabic language. The stories and tales were collected over many centuries by various authors, academics and translators in West, South and Central Asia and North Africa. The tales are mostly about ancient and medieval Arabic, Persian, Egyptian, Mesopotamian and Indian literature and folklore. Many of the tales were particularly from the Caliphate era. The frame story of Shahryar and his wife Scheherazade is common throughout all the editions of the Nights. The stories are told from this initial tale. "Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp," "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves," and "The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor" are some of the best known tales.
