Hans Christian Andersen Biography
Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a prolific Danish writer of plays, novels and poems and is bestknown for his fairy tales. Hans Christian Andersen was born on 2nd April 1805 in the town Odense, Denmark. He traveled to Copenhagen in order to pursue an acting career after his father's death. He received international acclaim with the publication by the Copenhagen University and started his literary career. He met various famous figures at his time including Honore de Balzac, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Richard Wagner and Charles Dickens. Hans Christian Andersen said later that his years in school were the darkest and most bitter of his life. After his suffering from liver cancer, Hans Christian Andersen died at his home on 4th August 1875 in Copenhagen. At the time of his death, Hans Christian Andersen was internationally valued. He is buried in the Assistens Cemetery in Copenhagen.
